About Melia Hotels International Spain: Meliá Hotels International, S.A. (formerly Sol Meliá) is a Spanish hotel chain which was founded by Gabriel Escarrer Juliá in 1956 in Palma de Mallorca. It is also known as and referred to by its former name of Sol Meliá. The company is one of Spain’s largest domestic operators of holiday resorts and the 17th biggest hotel chain worldwide. Domestically in Spain the company is the market leader in both resort and urban hotels. Currently the hotel chain operates 374 hotels in 40 countries on 4 continents under the brands Meliá, Gran Meliá, ME by Meliá, Paradisus, Innside by Meliá, TRYP by Wyndham, Sol Hotels and Club Meliá.

The origins of the company reach back to 1956, when the then-21-year-old Gabriel Escarrer Juliá leased the Altair Hotel in Palma, Majorca. Over the subsequent years Escarrer took advantage of the island’s increasing popularity as a tourist destination for package holidaymakers, adding further properties to the portfolio of his company, Hoteles Mallorquines. The company expanded geographically in the 1960s and 70s, acquiring hotels in the Canaries as well as the other Balearic Islands. After the transition to democracy in Spain, tourism in Spain developed more rapidly and Hoteles Mallorquines aggressively moved onto the Spanish mainland, establishing a presence in much of the country by the early 1980s.

  1. I had a poor experience upon Check out from the Melia Caribe Beach Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. A bottle of liquor was charged to my room by someone else. They would not let me get on the shuttle to the airport. I was forced to pay for the bottle even though I did not purchase it. I would like someone to contact me about this issue immediately.

    Thank You

  2. Good day !

I am Natalia. I am the director of a network of travel companies in Moscow, Russia

OUR TOURISTS GRIBKOVA EKATERINA and her son Igor arrived at the hotel MELIA PENINSULA VARADERO yesterday, April 5th at 13.00

Our tourists were checked into the room only at 20.00

The tourists had no bed linen in their room and slept on dirty mattresses all the night (photo and video)

Tourists don*t have any towels in their room

The room is not locked. The lock is broken. Anyone can enter the room without hindrance

Today 6 th of April in this moment Ekaterina was not provided with another room with a closing door and sheets, duvet covers, towels and pillowcases were not brought to the old room. Ekaterina turned to the tour operator’s guide, contacted the accommodation service, but she was treated indifferently. 2 more families who arrived from Russia also do not have this bedding set. Ekaterina and her son slept at night on dirty mattresses (photos and videos), put their personal belongings on the mattresses

I have been working in tourism for 27 years and this is the first time i have seen such an attitude towards tourists. This is a bad attitude towards to your guests

I ask you to provide Ekaterina a comfortable room.
